Aggie of the Month

Aggie of the Month is awarded to an outstanding student currently an FFA member in MCVFFA and enrolled in an agricultural education class.

      December- Shawn Absten     

Shawn Absten, a 10th grader at Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School describes FFA as the key to opening doors for opportunities for him in his future. Being a hard working FFA member, Absten recently sold the most fruit in the chapter, a total of eighty seven whole boxes.

After joining FFA in 9th grade, Abesten began developing his Supervised Agricultural Experience in market meat goat and produce production. Currently he sells a market goat at the Mason County Fair and sells produce.

Absten also recently attended the 2009 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana which he described as very exciting and something every FFA member should see.

After graduating high school and obtaining his American degree, Absten plans to attend West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia and pursue a degree in Agricultural Education.

                 November- Wesley Davis

Wes Davis, son of Danny and Sonya Davis, has been a part of the  Mason County Vocational FFA chapter for three years.  He is in 10th grade and enrolled in Mr. Nibert's 4th block Agriulture and Natural Resources 3 class.  He enjoys meeting new people from different places, having the oppurtunity to learn leadership skills, and poultry judging.  After high school, Wes plans to attend North Carolina State University to receive a doctorate in poultry sciences.

Wes's SAE program consists of raising laying pullets for egg production, breeding kindle rabbits, growing fresh produce, and taking a goat to the Mason County Fair.  He, also, works with NRCS for soil and water management and a composting facility.  Wes has participated in many activities in FFA including:  the WV State FFA Convention, Winter Leadership Conference, Fruit Sales, and Public Speaking Contests.  Project DisplayIn October, Wes competed at the National FFA Convention in the National FFA Agriscience Fair, where he placed second in Zoology with his project: The Effects of Amino Acid Imbalance on the Egg Production of Gallus domesticus.  When asked about his participation in the ag fair, he aknowleges that "the agriscience fair really opened my eyes to the broad field of agricultural reasearch and the college and career opportunities in it."

October-Danielle Foglesong

   Danielle Foglesong is an 8th grade FFA member and is 13 years old. She is currently enrolled in Mr. Sam Nibert's first semester third block Agriculture and Natural Resource Management 101 class. She is the daughter of Sharon and Danny Foglesong. Her grandparents on her mother's side are Molly and Raymond Yauger; her father's side Joyce and Earl Foglesong.

    Danielle plans for her Supervised Agriculural Experince (SAE) program to be cattle and swine production. Recently Foglesong competed at the Career Development Events (CDEs) in Morgantown, West Virginia and hosted by West Virginia University and competed in the 7th and 8th Grade Agriscience contest. Foglesong was honored individually for being the state high scorer in agricultural mechanic tool identification. 

    When asked what she would say to other students to interest them in FFA,  Foglesong replied "It is a great agricultural experince and is always fun." 

    Foglesong plans to attend West Virginia University upon graduation. After college, she plans to start a successful cattle farm in Mason County, West Virginia.
